The Adukias: Prima Donnas of Nepal (4/4)
Nepal's bloated trade Maximus, ploughed South Asia's capital field with fathers sickle, in-laws collective strength and cultural coveralls to hoodwink
Nepal Operations Chariot Then:
Past episodes connecting Nepal and her southern neighbor, India, will require a careful look at the political power centers when events occurred. India’s after all a vibrant democracy with lots of regional political complexities1 averaging an election every month when grouping Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha elections across states.
In a previous post we mentioned incidents highlighting Nepalese as perpetrators and saved one main episode for last to help our readers finally connect the dots.
At the same time, in India’s Uttarakhand(UK), the state adjoining west Nepal news of a genuine Nepalese seer, Acharya2 Balkrishna with a humble village background and origins in western Nepal was making incessant newspaper headlines almost every day. He was alleged to be an armed and dangerous Gorkha.3 The case was finally pinned on forged educational degree4 for obtaining an Indian Passport and that required Intelligence inputs. This is how ludicrously far it went to pin one man down. In spite of relentless campaign for years with Gorkha community help5 to tarnish his name and image, the authorities were not able to nail him down. In the interim, the media trial managed to damage his reputation including that of an Ayurveda company he co-founded.
Readers should be aware that Uttarakhand(UK, India) has a lot of Nepali speaking population. East India Company’s cantonment to recruit Gorkha soldiers started in the state’s capital, Dehradun subsequently moving to Lucknow, during Indira Ghàndy’s time. Reason behind the move could either be to usurp Tea estates, several properties, courtesy of the East India Company, as a deal struck to abdicate Nepal’s reigns and relocate them to a safehouse6 or prohibit more Nepali speaking population from swelling up around Army camps fearing another Subhash Chandra Bose from resurfacing to Nēhru clan’s detriment.
The prior tunes involving Nepalese as perpetrators to malign Gorkha names were just teaser campaigns aimed at one man. Alarmingly, the campaigns funneled right into Saffron Terror in the region followed by numerous articles along the same lines in Nepal. The product launch finally happened a few years later culminating in Siddhartha of UK(United Kingdom)7. String them together and think about this carefully woven media campaign for a minute before you go any further! 😳
Yes, you guessed it right! There were several raises by setters in Nepal and India for a spike from the UK(United Kingdom) which thankfully was out of bounds but needed third umpire review. Regional cultural grand heist included both Sanatana & Buddhism with roots in the region. When Nepal’s guardians warn about potential misuse of Nepal’s soil to cause harm somewhere else, this is a part of what they mean. Shouldn’t surprise anyone upon hearing recent recall actions at source.
Nations across the globe were not spared of the evil designs packaged in an indigenous form. Sowing seeds of chaos, recruiting unsuspecting human resource, political turmoil8 to tarnish Nepal’s image were all carefully planned steps in that direction and surprisingly, a lot of people still fall for it.
While the Son of Nepal Soil was facing the wrath in UK(Uttarakhand, India), who happened to go across the border in search of cultural roots, India’s Kapil Singh who went by Pilot Baba hogged the limelight in both nations. Almost appeared that the genuine ones9 were being pushed to a brink while the fake ones highlighted making it hard for the unsuspecting public to discern the good from the bad.
Kapil Singh was touted as a man who survived a close crash in his earlier avatar as a pilot, could predict when airplanes crash in Nepal 😳, went on a lengthy hiatus no one knew, had ‘A’ listers from Nepal’s bureaucracy(mainly law! and defense! then) including several members of Nepal’s Intelligentsia and business. He was allowed a pedestal just so they could fool the unsuspecting into various forms of submissions and carry out their nefarious missions in Nepal and India, mostly staying in Nepal which is, apparently, no longer the case. The designs so intricate and planned, even an earnest seeking disciple could not tell the difference and fell on their feet.
Looking back, it was all part of a larger design to tarnish Sanatana culture and push back on monetary outcomes of Patanjali’s indigenous product commercialization. We broadly wrote about the former here.
The cultural guardians are connecting the dots and finally working on reversals—locally dubbed cultural street cleansing. With potential ramification, reverberations across the globe it takes time to verify sources credibility, provide safehouses to approvers, assess ground impact, future plans, prepare for the void and make sure the innocents are not caught in the cross-fire—again!
We were not expecting the preamble to be this long. Let’s get to the point. JSB tower, Adukia’s flagship project back in 2010 adjoining the property of now deceased Shovana Grg Pokharel had connections to non-state actors in UK(United Kingdom) and Japan.10 Can’t implicate anyone having property next to a bad neighbor. However, Ms. Shovana was linked directly to Kapil Singh’s ashram in Suryabinayak and her relatives properties were used to house Rakesh’s mouthpiece Karobar Daily then. Karobar Daily, apparently, managed to open up a branch in Tamil Nadu, India. 👇🏿 We’re not too sure about this and could easily be an entry mistake. Will let the authorities decide to see if there’s any truth to this.
If true, the A-Thookiyas, Nepal’s primadonna money managers are thick in the middle of flicking their remnant illegal wealth and any traces left of it in Nepal all the way to Tamil Nadu, South India finding their back to the origin after meandering around in Nepal following Kapil Singh’s footsteps.
Adukia clan’s 20+ year war against Patanjali on the wane:
Adukia’s parfum business was a front to camouflage medicinal rare herbs smuggle from West Nepal. During inspection by authorities on suspecting operations to see if the books match their claims, they’d take random tree leaves to the border and call it mentha leaves from West Nepal. An eye witnesses to an event narrated that Rakesh would often brag how he would deceive authorities for tax exempt by cleaning the forest for them and preventing forest fires taking a leaf out of Vijay Malya’s11 playbook, a resident of South India and UK(United Kingdom.) West Nepal is renowned for rare medicinal herbs. The clan mostly operated from West Nepal, but you won’t find any trace online on their local ops. One would shudder to think what other contrabands the group was moving around.
To understand why the group and their cohorts strong-armed Patanjali from opening outlets until mid 2015, it is important to know how ground sidekicks, idle householders were mobilized and which FMCG public shares in Nepal they were protecting. Well, that’s stock market and any investor would like to protect their investments within the boundaries of prescribed stock market rules.
However, using illicit funds, strong arming potential competitors on the ground, using extended family distribution network to gang up on competition is not what Free Market is all about. This intentional entry barrier is the reason why Nepal lacks entrepreneur within or have plenty of exasperated ones. The moment they step out, they start flourishing.
At one point, it almost seemed that maintaining the value of the stock at all cost to keep their fortunes alive in Nepal was all the group brainstormed in their incubation Gaddhi. Patanjali must have been nightmarish with multi-pronged approach to steal their FMCG thunder in Nepal. First, Patanjali had better in-house scientific research to bring regional Ayurveda to the forefront. Second, Adukias would have to share ground in west Nepal which is exactly what happened12, followed by demonetization, eventually leading them to pack their bags in rare-herbs business. Once the objective of cash laundering was off the table, herb/parfum business made no sense to them anyways.
The Natural Convergence:
Meanwhile, Kapil Singh’s disciples operating from Nainital, UK(Uttarakhand) helped connect west Nepal transporting contrabands via mules across the hilly region of West Nepal and UK(Uttarakhand) staging them for distribution to other centers. Their agony magnified further around 2015-16 when politics of UK and UP changed, This is when Adukia chose the East border in Bihar and partnered up with the Jalans of East Nepal with connections in West Bengal and the Lambs Club of Biratnagar. Rakesh’s younger brother who was in Hongkong mostly, started appearing in West Bengal. When things started getting tough, a new cover was needed for money laundering. That’s when the movie 3-Ghumti was made. Surprisingly, the author, producer, transnational operators all holed up in one region almost appearing as if it were destiny waiting to happen!
From Surya-binayak via Kamal-binayak to Siddhi-Binayak13, the Singh-Adukia duo and their cohorts with cultural coveralls deceived Nepal observers and continued nefarious activities in the region.
Another convergence around late 2019 was that of Sunrise led by Shashikant Agarwal and Laxmi Group(Inspired by Laxmi Mittal Group in UK), now led by Rakesh Adukia. Once sworn enemies for larger share of the economy pie and transfers from HK, they had a rerun at incoming illicit capital as politics in India changed for the better. In hindsight, it is clear that they were positioning themselves as opposite poles leaving room in the future to join forces when required and prepare for foreign missions in different directions. They were well versed in changing Indian politics and constantly worked to fit all geopolitical configuration settings. If dynamism alone was required for business success the duo passes with flying colors.
Nepal’s cultural bedrock, Sanatana and Buddhism were two side characters each picked up to be deployed or play savior and eventually save face going as far as residing in respective vicinity in the capital. It worked to an extent, but not the way the group had it planned all along. We will refrain from saying anything further due to active investigations and actions in ground zero.
It’s funny how Kapil Singh, Shashi Kant Agarwal and Rakesh Adukia’s fates finally aligned in 2019!
Nepal’s institutions are undergoing rigorous tests at the moment. Enough pressure already built for natural cracks to start appearing. Once the infighting subsides14, NI is eager to see genuine ones hold their ground and provided a level playing field to encourage/motivate future generation to pursue entrepreneurial journey. Meanwhile, the entire business clan lined up on 4K HD view for consumer to take notice and make up their minds on who they want to trust with their money. There’s finally light at the end of the tunnel. So, enjoy!
Conclusion:
The hullabaloo in Nepal business is beginning to subside after several M&As. Transparent foreign investments, both government and private are back making news after junks discarded. There’s active work in rearing up strong economy minds in academia and journalism scrutinizing junk investment from rearing it’s ugly head in the future. Nepal Stock Market and several boards are undergoing active trimming. Plus, bureaucracy handling finance is being spruced up and monitored.
The underlying principles of rule based capitalism are being resurrected leaving little room for cutting corners, once a hallmark of entrepreneurs in Nepal. Lessons are finally being learned but much hard work required on all levels—both government and private. Meanwhile, Nepal’s Finance should intermittently change their tagline to: Paisa ko Hisab Nepal ko Dharma ho!
P.S: The goal of this post is to serve as a historical artifact documenting events unfolding in Nepal Finance. Also hoping that political parties collectively start deliberating on Election Campaign Finance laws adding more credibility in public eyes. If not, whoever has more money will win elections and will keep making room for shady irreformable criminals in business and politics. Losses to Nepal and her people are the only outcome if this continues.
Same complexity used to garner support for anti-India sentiments within Nepal without dissecting which camp in India is the culprit against Nepal. A clever political ploy that is slowly beginning to unravel itself. Easy when it involves states adjoining Nepal borders, yet everyone continues to look the other way. Complexities grow in scale the further you move inland into India territory.
Meaning the learned one and NOT surnames that we see in the region. Huge difference.
There’s also been several attempts to end his life
It’s only a crime if you use forged educational degree to obtain benefits. Some do it to find out fake degree market out of curiosity to see how deep the rot is and for society they grew up in .. called a degree pressure. Leaving behind crumbs on a trail for a very long time. Someone is picking it up
Nepalese in India are often termed as Gorkha. The online debate that was playing out in Social Media during border debacle in 2015 to reclaim the name was just to arouse anti-India sentiments within Nepal. Sorry, if you were one of them.
More on this and future attack vectors of the Nēhru family dynasty in another post. We will talk more about political Koiralas, the Singhs and subsequently the Maoist ‘A’ team… at different times …housing them at the same locations twisting ancient Nepal-India connections to serve the political families and their pawns.
Gautama Buddha’s 🕉️ birth name was Siddhartha
Political turmoil now used against politics and carefully filter out the bad from the good
There were several genuine ones on the Indian side whose life was turned upside down until 2014
Please note that these nations are Nepal’s guardians and those involved are non-state actors operating across the globe
Mallya’s liquor business operated out of UK made quite a flash in Nepal and India
And then some near capital

In Nepali: Dui Dhunga ko Tarool English: Yam between two rocks, during Yam eating day in Nepal. Destiny?
Here's an excerpt from 'registered' mail that came in early, but had to be withheld to verify the veracity:
"... well, I refuse to believe that this was done without the knowledge of GoN including the Forestry department and transportation authorities then... rare herbs traffic-ing has to be guarded closely on the Nepal side as well as on the Indian side... Maybe it's just time for Armed forces to guard and that's exactly what is happening. So, Nepal's making corrections with in-house cleaning which is good to see"
We noticed that the images are too pixelated. What's up?
